It happened that on the same day I had two consultations with women with cardiological problems: both had arrhythmia. A common topic, but completely different reasons, constitutional types, felt symptoms and thus my approach and proposed methods were different.
Case one:
Middle-aged woman with a predominance of kapha dosha in the constitution and kapha disorders. A simple to diagnose case of arrhythmia based on hypertension, obesity and atherosclerotic lesions forming in the arteries. In addition to the above, the woman complained of joint pain, frequent headaches (in my opinion resulting from hypoxia and atherosclerotic lesions) and leg swelling, water retention.
Of course, the whole sense of our considerations and conversations concerned on minimizing kapha in her condition, so it is impossible to write them here all. To sum up the most important thing, apart from eliminating kapha-raising foods and actions: I introduced gently diuretic parsley, celery and carrot (cucumber in summer) in small quantities so as not to rinse out the potassium. In the morning I recommended drinking a glass of water with a teaspoon of honey and 5-10 drops of apple vinegar for atherosclerotic lesions. The diet also should include garlic, cooked onion, pepper, cayenne pepper, green tea, magnesium-rich products and oils containing omega-3 fatty acids. I strongly recommended arjuna, punarnava, hawthorn and motherwort. From the breathing techniques I chose alternate nostril breathing. The necessary dose of movement every day – a minimum of half an hour quite fast.
Second case:
A woman, aged 45, with the predominance of vatta dosha in the constitution and disturbed vatta energy. She complained of fainting, nervousness, shortness of breath, shallow breathing, constant anxiety, headache, hot flashes due to menopause. From the very beginning you could see accumulated stress, accelerated pulse, anxiety in the eyes, and during the conversation – a constant state of tension. A shaky and brown tongue completed the picture of disturbed vatta.
In this case, of course, I focused on introducing rules that reduce vatta energy. Unfortunately, this lady’s ailments or complaints are integrally related to what is happening in her mind and I attached more importance to the discussion about the means that will help release this tension, which accumulates in the head and gives symptoms in the physical body. Among them, I came to the role of meditation techniques (focusing on the candle flame, meditation on numbers, elements of nature or other), overcoming the multitude of thoughts through exercises, mindfulness training, concentration training; yoga or other form of practice focused on the mind-body relationship. Among the yogic positions, I recommended Adho Mukha Svanasana and Marjaryasana (cat’s back), but Adho Mukha Sukhasana, Adho Mukha Virasana, Balasana, Bhujangasana, Halasana, Yoga Mudra, Makarasana or Parivtitta Ardha Chandrasana are anso good … Pranayama good to this condition: Ujjayi.
After that I went to diet and herbs. At first fire – stopping stimulants including coffee. She needed more water and herbal teas; angelica, lemon balm, and herbs: gotu kola and ashwagandha. The diet should definitely include more foods supplying B group vitamins, antioxidants, including vitamin E (I added various berries and oils). Considering the additional progressive menopause process and bone changes that were already visible (on the phalanges of the hands), it was also necessary to pay attention to the good supply of calcium, vitamin D and K2 (for example eggs).
You are probably wondering what is the PURPOSE of this post?
I would like to draw your attention to the problem of INDIVIDUALITY, which is the key in Ayurveda and so overlooked in consciousness of people. There is no UNIVERSAL cure for the same ailment for everyone, because everyone is different. Asking the question: „what can you do about x ailment” is a mistake, because as you can see above, the same disease can have COMPLETELY DIFFERENT ANSWERS:) So, watch yourself closely, do daily self-diagnosis based on looking at your tongue, nails and even wrinkles and spots, think about your ailments and seek answers to what is bothering you, but do it all in the spirit of your own individuality. Posts such as on my blog, for example, are designed to make you aware of how many different causes of a disease you can have, and thus the many ways to go out:)
